The Independent Learning Center focuses on the creation of opportunities and experiences necessary for students to become capable, self-reliant, self-motivated and life-long learners. Independent learners become students who value learning as an empowering activity of great personal and social worth.
At ILC we teach our students using a multisensory approach. Multisensory teaching is simultaneously introducing visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile to enhance memory and learning. Links are consistently made between the visual (what we see), auditory, (what we hear), and kinesthetic-tactile (what we feel) pathways.
Multisensory education takes advantage of these opportunities by working with more than one sense and more than one learning style. Because this approach speaks to the learner in their learning style rather than the one that is communicated by a pre-determined curriculum or that of the instructor, multisensory education brings students and instructors together to share the same experience or activity. Using these techniques, an instructor is able to effectively create new in-roads for a student to develop independent thinking.
ILC provides a highly efficient, skill-based tutoring service for students of all levels and academic ability. Our program provides a means to test, teach, and measure your student’s academic progress. Your student will develop improved learning habits and skills resulting in notably improved schoolwork and test scores. As test scores rise so does a student’s self-esteem.
ILC skill-based tutoring consists of a personalized education plan created to suit a student’s learning style or learning difference. We promote maximum skill building and retention along with the development of critical thinking and a realization of our ultimate goal—the ability to study independently.
